Macon county to open August for rural schools and September for consolidated schools Franklin Highlands Chapel. County superintendent M D Billings released the list of teachers, noting requests for additional staff not yet confirmed. Revival At Franklin Methodist Draws Large Crowds

A large, growing congregation attends a revival at Franklin Methodist Church with Rev. James G. Huggin Jr delivering earnest sermons. The ten day series runs from Ascension Day toward Pentecost ending June 9, while the Vacation Bible School closes June 7. All are invited to end of week services and Sunday events.

Aldermen Relinquish Franklin Pool and Rec Center

Franklin's board voted to transfer the municipal golf course and swimming pool back to the Franklin Recreational Company, with a quitclaim deed and conditions requiring continued operation until December 1943. The move ends dual control and assigns full operation to the recreation company under the prior 1933 concessions.

Macon Names Welfare Head to Succeed Davis

In a joint session the county commissioners and board of education accepted the resignation of Miss Rachel Davis as county welfare superintendent and elected Mrs Eloise Franks to succeed her effective July 1. Franks will work part time with an office in the courthouse. salary not yet set, previously $60 monthly.

Commissioners Vote $500 For Forest Fire Work

The Macon county commissioners voted to renew for two years their contract with the state department of conservation and development for cooperative forest fire prevention and control. The board appropriated $500 for its share of the expense for the ensuing year.

Thorpe Reports 516.56 For Lobbying Expenses

J. E. S. Thorpe of Nantahala Power and Light, operator of the Franklin hydro electric plant, filed with the secretary of state a 516.96 expense payment from the company for activities as a lobbyist during the recent legislative session. The filing reflects the law requiring lobbyists and employers to report fees and expenses.

Funeral Services Held For T. N. Snyder

Funeral services for T. N. Snyder, 79, who died at his Watauga home May 30, were held at Watauga Baptist church with Rev. George Cloer officiating. A Jackson county native who moved to Macon county 40 years ago, he had been an invalid four years. He was a deacon and member of Oak Ridge Baptist church. Survived by two sons E A Snyder and J L Snyder, two daughters Mrs T C Sanders and Miss Lula Snyder, Franklin Route 4. three brothers H R Snyder of Dillsboro, R G Snyder of Willets, Henry M Snyder of Old Fort. two sisters Mrs Elbert Ensley of Gastonia and Mrs William Fisher of Cottage Grove, Ore.

County Board Approves 1500 Annual Health Program Funds

Macon County commissioners voted to join a four county district health department with Haywood Jackson and Swain. The appropriation rises to 1500 yearly plus 3700 from other sources to fund a public health nurse sanitary inspector and district health dentist share. The move enables state federal aid and a broader health program including a dental service and improved sanitation.
