Mrs. Jennie Shook Snook Dies at 72 in Franklin
Mrs. Jennie Stanfield Snook aged 72 died Wednesday afternoon at her daughter Mrs. Ennis Tilson’s home in Franklin. Widow of A. E. Shook she leaves five daughters including Mrs. Tilson and Mrs. Henderson, son E. C. Shook, 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral Friday at Buck Creek Baptist Church at 11 o'clock with Rev. Frank Eld officiating. Also note Siler Slagle recovering from tractor accident, patient at Angel Hospital.

The Western Carolina Telephone company released a 28 page 1947 directory counting over 1300 listings across six communities Franklin Sylva Clayton Bryson City Highlands and Cullo whee. Franklin lists 380 phones including 24 Forest Service entries Highlands 122 Sylva 383 Clayton 208 Bryson City 186 Cullo whee 27. Total telephones in service exceeds June 1 1946 by about 16 percent with 108 more since January 1. Directory notes longest surname Pendergrass and Ray as shortest with many four letter names. Angel appears eight times in Franklin. Bryton seven. Thirteen Highlands firms start with Highlands. none with Macon. Printed by The Franklin Press with 28 pages and 80 percent larger than prior pace.
