New Franklin High School board districts named in NC

Franklin High School graduation exercises at Macon Theatre featured 84 graduates and a $100 award to Ann Lyle for all around excellence. Principal and county officials presented diplomas as faculty speakers addressed home economics, business education, agriculture, English, mathematics, science, and citizenship. Public attendance exceeded 600, with many in aisles and foyer.

Sherrill Edwards Retire Browning Byrd in Local Board Race

In Macon County a hard fought race for the five member board of education produced Mrs Florence Sherrill and Walter Sloan as top finishers. Carl Slagle led the field for representative. Official results show Browning and Byrd among others with close totals as candidates seek fall general election battles.

Franklin High Baccalaureate Draws Large Franklin audience

crowd of about 600 packed the Macon Theatre for Franklin High School’s Sunday night baccalaureate service. Rev Hoyt Vans of Franklin Presbyterian preached on No Middle Ground and the seniors entered in caps and gowns to Verdi and Wagner music. The ceremony featured multiple clergy, choir hymns, and marshals from nine juniors. Franklin Lodge and Golf Course opened for the season. Jack Carpenter, son of E J and Mrs Carpenter, was named to Western Carolina Teachers College faculty to teach mathematics.

Forest meet highlights noted speakers in North Carolina

In Western North Carolina the meeting outlined 1200 miles of trout streams and highlighted forest, fishing, game, and recreation. Speakers included Carolina Parks and Parkway and the National Forests commission, emphasizing conservation and outdoor access.

Houk Reelected President by Macon NCEA Unit

The Macon County unit of the North Carolina Education Association reelected Guy J. Houk as president at a banquet at Slagle Memorial. C. F. Summer was named reelected vice president, Mrs. Roper treasurer, and Mrs. Robert Blaine secretary. Houk spoke on NCEA issues amid remarks by county board of education members.

A memorial service was moved due to weather affecting arrangements. The ceremony honors Potts with attendees and a remembrance at the site, reflecting community ties and timing.

Burrell Motor Couupan softballers beat Zickeraf 10 6 and Legionnaires defeated Nantahala Power and Light company in Monday night games. Starting times for future games moved from 7 to 730. Tomorrow Rotary vs Burrell and Nantahala Power and Light vs Oilers. Next Monday Rotary meets Legion and Ziekgraf faces Oilers.

Franklin Nine To Play Andrews Here Saturday

Franklin nine will play Andrews Saturday on the local diamond. The team will travel to Yaieville for a game Sunday. Last weekend’s games were rained out and must be played at a later date.

Revival series to open Sunday in county wide meet led by Dr Church

A county wide interdenominational revival opens Sunday at Friendship Tabernacle in Bonny Crest Franklin. Rev John Church will preach the opening 3 pm service and return for three sermons Sunday. He will also speak at the Methodist church at 11 am and at the Baptist church 7 pm Sunday. Choirs from all churches are invited to participate in the consolidated choir. Additional youth services are planned during the series. Dr Church is an approved Methodist evangelist noted in Macon County and was invited by an interdenominational group to organize the revival.

Baptist Ministers Meet Here Next Monday

The Macon County Baptist Ministers conference will be held at First Baptist church Monday at 10 30 am. The Rev Charles E Parker is president and the Rev W C Pipes is secretary. UNE 15 DEADLINE. June 18 for veterans to file farm training program applications starting July 1. In serious condition 43 F Fox of Shelby collapsed at Hotel Hearn and is a patient at Angel Nie where his condition remains nervous.
