Student speakers and the salutatorian addressed the crowd on youth responsibility to the nation as 89 graduates received diplomas marking the end of the 1949 school year. The 64 voice choir appeared in pastel gowns during the ceremony.

An account vouched by Mrs. B C Bell of Chicago describes an incident in May 2011 at the Ditmore home in Flats. The Ditmores and Dr and Ms Bell saw a large black snake on a high branch and another snake on the same limb.
