Heavy voter turnout looms in Macon County primary
Reports indicate a very heavy ballot Saturday across Macon County as campaigns for representative register of deeds and county commissioners heat up along with races for state senator US senator and congressman. Young voters newly eligible are steering the action as absentee ballots are not allowed in county races. Democratic ticket lists several nominees while Republicans have no county ticket.

Summer School Opens June 6 After Delay
County Superintendent M D Billings announced a six week summer school for high school and grade children will start Monday June 6 instead of May 30. Students must report to the high school at 8 30 each morning. The seventh grade entrance exam will be given again in the fall for those attending the program.

John T Henry, 76, died at his Ellijay home Monday morning after months of illness from heart trouble. A farmer and longtime Ellijay merchant, he served as Ellijay postmaster for years and belonged to the Ellijay Baptist church. Funeral at Ellijay Baptist Church Tuesday at 3 p.m. with Rev. The Young Peoples Athletic club will sponsor a Major Bowes hour Friday at 8 PM in the courthouse. First Aid Course Trains Miners in Macon County
A 15 hour first aid and accident prevention course led by Murray M. Grier trained employees from Franklin Mineral Products Bradley Mica Mines Duvall Mica Mines Minerals Inc and Nantahala Power and Light in Macon County May 24 to 28. Certificates and manuals were awarded to 15 successful participants with two more listed as attendees. An emphasis on emergency care covered artificial respiration arterial bleeding control back injuries fracture care and transport planning. Additional unemployed miners also completed the course.
