Funeral services for 116 Stillwell 76 who died December 23 at his Tea community home were held last Friday at the Baptist church. Officiating were Rev W L Sorrels and Rev Arvil Swatford. Pallbearers included George Gibrson James Myers Bob Houston Claude Roper Terrell Parrish and Jack Cansler. Honorary pallbearers were J B Myers Walter Gibson W T Tippett Jim Tallent Lennie Hall James Morrison C A Meadows Emis Growston and Bad Duvall. Born November 26 1872 at Webster he was the son of John Harvey and wife. In 1898 he married Fannie Gribble. Survivors include four daughters Theo Kiser Pred Bryson Kilpatrick Tippett and Mrs Edgar Tippett one son Frank Stillwell two sisters Arzela Morgan and Mollie Jane Stillwell 6th of Webster and 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Potts funeral home in charge.

Rupert Guy Auton, a Sylva native and former Sylva High teacher, is named principal of Franklin School to replace W. H. Finley who resigned. He will assume duties Monday after Christmas break. Sutton moves from Sylva High to Franklin. Mrs L Sloan, former teacher and widow of Leon Sloan, dies at 79 in the Iola community after 47 years in the county. Funeral in Iola Methodist Church.

Claimed By Death At Age 85 Melvin Crisp
Melvin Crisp of Macon county died Monday at the home of Mrs Pred Wood in the Callasaja section. He was the son of Mat and Elizabeth Crisp. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the home with Rev. Arvil Swatford and Rev. Frank Holland officiating. Burial followed in the Crisp cemetery. Pallbearers were Hayes C J Harvey Claude Crisp and grandsons Raymond and Lawson Wood. He is survived by four daughters Ethel Serenues Anna Crisp Morganton and Louise Speed Highlands, one son Ba Crisp of Greisl, and one sister Mrs Jim Holland of Georgia. Arrangements were directed by Bryant funeral services.

Three Arrests in Hougay Liquor Raids
Sheriff P Bradley announced three arrests this week for liquor violations. An 8 gallon copper still was seized on Coweeta and released on a $300 bond for a hearing Saturday. Authorities reported 1000 gallons of beer poured out and whiskey seized at Grace Fleming store along the county road.

Macon County boy wins 1948 mountain district corn crown
The 1948 19 county mountain district corn growing champion is a Macon County H club boy. Dr E R Collins of the NC Extension service supervised the contest and telephoned County Agent S W Mendenhall that the Macon boy won in the mountain region. The winner, Young Deal son of Mr and Mrs Jake P De, grew 135 bushels of corn on a mes- rere field at Cat Creek community.
