Gribble Wins History Prize at Macon County Society
Miss Barbara Gribble, Franklin Route 2, eleventh grade at Franklin High, won $20 for best historical article by a Macon County pupil. The award announced last August and presented at Monday night’s annual Macon County Historical Society meeting where officers were elected. Laura M. Jones became president. Jane Ed McNish named vice president. Also, the Social Baptist church plans a play The Search for the Christ nil a at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Macon Schools Gain From Court Funds In 1940
Macon County school funds grew by 1218 from the December term of superior court with 900 in fines 250 in cash bonds forfeited 168 other money directed to schools. Other funds include 120 solicitor fees and 48 jury tax with shifts in allocation to the county and school funds. Additional terms in 1940 yielded 1353 1841 1800 totals and a final 3295 40 across fines forfeitures solicitor fees and jury tax.

Christmas and New Year Holidays Close Local Businesses
Virtually all businesses in Franklin Highlands and throughout Macon County will close two days during the Christmas holiday period. Since Christmas and New Year fall on Sunday, stores and offices will observe holiday on Monday December 26 and again on Monday January 2. Post offices and most public offices will close for the two holidays.
