The Pranklin Jaycees begin their fourth annual Search On For Macon’s Young Man. A secret selection committee will pick a winner who has made outstanding community contributions. A banquet in January will present the Distinguished Service Award. Nominations open to men under 36, with a statement detailing achievements.
Franklin churches from Methodist Baptist and Presbyterian paths prepare for the third annual Christmas cantata sponsored by the Franklin Jaycees. Admission is a toy or food or clothing donation. gifts will fill Jaycees Christmas baskets. Rev J B Hatchett leads arrangements. cantata will present traditional carols. A Christmas program is also planned for Cartoove Church on Tuesday at 7:30 PM at the school.
A county check for 10022.7160 arrives as the state forest receipt share. Tom Henson, deputy tax collector, notes receipts come from timber stumpage and minor permits. Macon leads counties with Nantahala National Forest land and large allocations. other counties show smaller sums. A meeting of the Fotla Rural Community Development Organization is set for Monday at 6 30 at Fotla School with a covered dish supper.
A contract for a 10F construction of a link on US 23441 from Mountain City to Clayton, Ga, is expected to be let on December 11. Right of way for the new section from the state line to Mountain City is clear. A second project from Franklin to the state line is about to begin as part of three planned sections to Tallulah Falls.
The girls beat Webster 43 27 with Caro Dowdle scoring 18 while the boys won 42 34 led by Willard Smith with 20. Tuesday the girls beat Cherkee 28 20 as Mavis Gibson starred on offense. The boys lost 53 50 with Crawford Moore top scorer at 12. Next Franklin teams play in Bryan City and Bienville with games at 7 and 9.
Auto groups accounted for 2,392,000 in 1984 retail sales and gasoline service stations added 1,414,000, totaling 3,806,000 for the two allied sectors. Twenty-three food stores posted 1,481,000, eleven eating establishments 268,000, and 24 general merchandise stores 786,000.

A lean 69 year old vagabond named Smokey Cameron from Arizona walked into Franklin amid a heavy drizzle. He claimed to have traveled nearly 18 000 miles in this hemisphere and to wear out 22 pairs of moccasins. He said walking keeps him young, his family died in a cattle stampede, and he had $250 on hand with plans to sleep on the street if needed as he continues toward Florida.
The Franklin Press earned a certificate of merit from the North Carolina Society of Local Historians at its annual meeting in Raleigh. The award recognizes meritorious local history journalism, highlighting feature articles on North Carolina history. The Press was the state's only weekly honored, and one of two newspapers to receive the award.

Macon County Board of Education met with no official action but reviewed several issues. The county’s share of a 50 million state school expansion bond was reported as 152 327.87 though final figures await state board release. Plans depend on exact allocation and superintendent McSwain’s return. The board also eyed buying about four acres of Frank Leach land near Franklin High School for play areas and future expansion, located opposite the building’s south end.
Macon County agent, age unspecified, has been elected president of the North Carolina County Agents Association for 1936. He won the post at a meeting held Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, as reported by local authorities.
