County Lot Sold To Power Company SHEDD SENTENCED TO GAS CHAMBER
Curtis Shedd, 29, of Walhalla, was convicted of two counts of first degree murder for the August slayings of two Walhalla girls found in Macon County. The jury, after long deliberation, recommended no mercy and he was sentenced to die in the gas chamber. The verdict followed testimony and evidence presented by prosecutors. Shedd showed no emotional reaction as Judge Press pronounced sentence.

School Board Votes To Buy Site At Union
The Macon County Board of Education voted to authorize Supt. G. L. Houk to purchase the Union school site for 2800 dollars. The property sits west of the Methodist parsonage on part of the J. W. Adington farm, containing about seven acres. Wallace Martin resigned as Franklin High teacher. Ray Clarke, a graduate of Western Carolina Teachers College, was recommended to fill the post.
