Fatal House Fire Kills Mrs Webb in Highlands
A Highland home on Laurel street burned after a family attempted to escape. Mrs. Webb died from extensive burns after jumping from a second story window with her daughter Sue Hicks and brother Lawrence Hicks’s family member. Hicks and Sue Hicks survived, both treated for burns. Hicks later to Winston-Salem hospital. Firemen faced hindered efforts due to hose length. Funeral services for Mrs. Webb held at Macedonia Baptist church in Satolal, Ga. Burial in Rogers cemetery. About $190 raised by state highway workers to aid Hicks.
