Franklin to get municipal golf course and swimming pool
Franklin prepares a 90 acre tract near Camp Nikwasi for a municipal golf course and a large concrete swimming pool. The deed was given by Miss Laura Jones. Civil Works workers begin excavation on Thanksgiving. A new Franklin Recreational Company will underwrite debts, lease to the town for a dollar, and operate with earnings funding maintenance. Twenty more workers will start Friday to finish pool and course improvements.

Public Improvements Boosted by C W A Program in Macon County
The Civil Works Administration program will put 210 workers from Macon County to work on local improvements. Projects include school roof repairs, a municipal pool in Franklin, four major road upgrades, street work in Franklin and Highlands, and construction of a Franklin high school athletic field. Wages range from 30 to 45 cents for common labor up to 60 to 90 cents for foremen and skilled laborers, with a 30 hour weekly limit.

Fishermen Return From Crystal River Trip with Big Catch
W T Moore W T McConnel and Wade Arvey returned to Franklin Friday from Crystal River with a large catch. A single sea bass reportedly weighed 11 pounds and the group claimed over a thousand pounds of fish in total. The haul included a 42 minute struggle to land a large fish that towed their boat.

Adults Planned Under Civil Works Training at W C College
A one week training course for those who will soon conduct adult schools in Western North Carolina under the Civil Works Administration will begin December 1 at Western Carolina Teachers college. The program aims to prepare about 60 un employed teachers for four months, covering academic and vocational subjects, homemaking and economies. Teachers will receive 13.50 a week plus $13.50 for the training week, and room and board at the college will be provided for 100 a day. President H T Hunter of Western Carolina Teachers college will direct the school. Continued on page four.
