Deer Season Ends With Light Bag Report
Sundown Saturday ended the 1056 deer season with light harvests across Wayah Standing Indian areas. In Standing Indian 33 hunters bagged 34 deer and two legal doe kills were reported while Wayah had fewer than a dozen kills. Roy Pendergrass and his son Sandy were highlighted as local figures, with Sandy, 13, shooting a six pointer on opening day.

Franklin senior tied for top in Voice of Democracy
Franklin High senior Margaret Jones tied for first in the Western District Voice of Democracy contest with an Asheville student. The district contest was held in Brevard last Thursday. Both advance to the state contest in Monroe on December 9, with expenses covered by sponsor Franklin Jaycees. Miss Jones is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Jones of Franklin.

The Macon County Broadcasting Company won FCC approval to operate a daytime AM station in Franklin on 1050 kilocycles at 500 watts. Henry Bartel Jr of Tryon, Graves Taylor of Tryon, and John E. Boyd of Landrum comprise the ownership group. Construction, weather permitting, could begin soon after the first of the month following FCC approval last Thursday. application had been filed last July.

The Franklin High School basketball teams opened the 56 season with the girls routing Clayton Georgia 65 22 led by Mavis Gibson with 11 points while the boys fell 38 41 Willard Smith scored 20 for Franklin Tuesday Sylva High teams visited and the girls won 30 11 with Gibson adding 23 points and the boys posted a 30 43 win. Centennial Crowd Packs Franklin Main And Palmer Streets
A large mid week throng crowd packed Franklin as the 1955 Centennial celebration ended with Main and Palmer Streets lined for the Christmas parade. Todays float depicted The Night Before Christmas with a family by the fireplace, and other entries featured The mountain chore of hog ling and Mary and the Christ Child. An estimated 4000 onlookers watched as Santa Claus rode with 23 floats from businesses and civic groups spreading Christmas cheer.
