New Officials Sworn In at Macon County Board
Macon county new board of commissioners took office Monday for a two year term. The outgoing board led by Walter Gibson turned over duties as Frank J. Murray swore in E. B. Byrd as chairman F. H. Potts and C. L. Islane and re elected officers including C. Tom Bryson A. B. Slagle J. H. Dalton and C. M. Moore. Harley R Cabe sworn in as clerk of court and later retired as Murray ends 14 years service. Bonds set for officers total various amounts including 5 000 for clerk of court sheriff 5 000 and treasurer 25 000. George Patton reelected county attorney at 24 a year. Juvenile judge Cabe appointed at 90 a year. Board paid four dollars a day not exceeding twelve a month. adjourned to meet Friday.

Three Week Christmas Holiday For Macon County Schools
Macon County will extend the Christmas vacation to three weeks with schools closing Friday December 21 and reopening January 14. County Superintendent M D Billings says the longer break helps conserve fuel for the schools. The spring closing will shift from the last week in April to the first week in May.

Unemployment Office Reports 1347 Jobs Since 1933
Since the Macon county National Reemployment Service began August 30 1933 under manager John W Edwards 1347 men and women have been placed in employment. The office has opened 385 working days through December 1 19 The daily average is about three and a half placements. Of those placed 352 were veterans 975 men without service records and 20 women. Regular jobs total 883 while 464 were temporary many lasting a week or less. Most regular jobs run four to six months or longer. Primary sources include National Recovery Act agencies Nanta hala National Forest Civil Works Administration Public Works Administration Tennessee Valley Authority via CWA. Veterans have preference on PWA work.

Franklin to Consider Water and Sewer Bond Election
Franklin town council moved toward an election to authorize bonds for a new water system street improvements sewer mains and a sewage plant. A federal grant could cover about 34 000 of 122 000 requested funding leaving 88 000 to be financed by bonds over 30 years.
