The county 4-H clubs plan Achievement Day next Saturday December 7 at 10 a.m. in the basement of the Methodist church. Miss Emma Low Hurst of Cartoogate chaye will preside as vice president. KW Shofiner state extension economist will lecture on Making Our Homes More Beautiful. A citizenship program by West Mill club follows lunch. Afterward 4-H girls will showcase clothing and canned fruit in contests. boys will use A.B. Slagle dairy farm for a stock judging contest. Certificates will be awarded to 81 clothing participants and 19 for fruit preservation. boys receive certificates for projects including calves pigs and wards.

Mrs. C P Phillips of Route 1 Macon County died Tuesday morning after a long illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Mount Zion Methodist Church with Rev J C Swaim and Rev J C Tabor officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. First Volunteers Leave for Fort Bragg in Draft Effort
C P Mason and W L Welch lead as the first volunteers for immediate service under the selective draft act. They will depart by bus at 7 a.m. Monday for Fort Bragg for a year of training after receiving papers Sunday afternoon at the draft board. They reside in Burningtown and Route 3 respectively, both single. Alternate Thurman Henry was named if needed. Two other volunteers, Harry Woody and Dover Raby, chose regular army service after a Wednesday examination and will head to Fort Bragg then Panama.

Funeral services for Mrs Hattie Gash Moore ninety seven known as Aunt Hattie were held at Hayesville Methodist church with multiple ministers in attendance She died at her daughter Mrs Frank Noten s home near Carthageaye after a long decline Born in Transylvania County on October 13 184 the daughter of Alley and Margaret Gash She married Captain William P Moore who served as a Confederate officer The family lived in Hayesville and Franklin with Mrs Moore later living with children in Clay and Macon counties Surviving are seven children thirty five grandchildren forty six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild

Sam Tallent aged 17, son of Mr and Mrs Ell Tallent of Route 1, was severely injured last week at a saw mill in Bill hospital where doctors found the saw had severed two ligaments in his right arm. His condition is reported as fair.

Nantahala dam project resumes after nine day halt

Court Term Closes Here In Sine Die Session
