Bank Robbery in Highlands Sparks Manhunt in NC
Two unidentified men robbed the Jackson County Bank in Highlands, taking 6627 in bills including coins, and fled toward Cashiers in an old coupe. Cashier Norman Brown and driver Jim Henry were ordered to lie down. Brown dropped 1200 in currency behind the adding machine. Bystander Bill Pierson raised the alarm. pursued by W. H. Cobb, officers searched nearby mountains but no arrests. Bank cash loss and suspect details: two men, about 25, 5 ft tall to 5 ft 7 in, 140 to 160 pounds, shabbily dressed. NC license plate later discarded three miles from Highlands.

Jack Sanders, proprietor, has spent a month fitting and stocking the shop which will offer popular priced goods including nations specialties household utensils candies and clothing.

Injuries Fatal hurt in Fall Steuman Dies in Sylva
In Sylva Weimar Steuman 35 of Watauga died Friday morning at C J Harris Community Hospital after a mine accident near Watauga two months earlier. He broke his back in a mine collapse, was exposed to dynamite fumes, and fell 15 feet to the shaft bottom while being drawn to the surface. Funeral at Watauga Baptist Church Saturday with Rev. Aldlesbee officiating. Survived by widow Ada Sanders, mother Ellen Crisp Steuman of Cullasaja, four brothers Homer Bill Robert Harley of Cullasaja and Sylva, five sisters Effie Steuman Tallent Bryson Moore of Sylva and Lillie Waters of Enka.

Bulgin's Loss Heavy In Machine Shop Fire
A fire damaged George Bulgin's machine shop on West Main Street Wednesday morning last week causing an estimated loss of several thousand dollars. The building and its substantial machinery were uninsured. Fire, discovered about 4 30 am, consumed the frame structure and contents. Bulgin has not decided whether to rebuild.

Silers Meet The Sith annual reunion of the Siler family was held today at the home of Mr and Mrs Tom Porter in Franklin. The Siler family is one of the largest in the county with reunions drawing relatives from several states. Evangelist Dr Bedinger to lead Morrison church revival
Evangelist Dr R D Bedinger, head of Home Missions in Asheville Presbytery, will conduct evangelistic services at Morrison Presbyterian Church on Georgia highway starting Monday August 5 at 8 p m.
