The Periclesian literary society, dormant for years, reopens with a charter list of thirty members. Officers elected include President Clarence Hall, Vice-President Silas Whitsett, Secretary Olive Sarbers, Censor Mildred Merrill, Chaplain Beulah Reap, Warden Buren Taylor, Girl Book Custodian Thomas Campbell, and Prosecuting Attorney Hugh Vandi.
Last week the Y W C A meeting led by Mildred Pope explored duties to ourselves including cheerfulness health privacy from worries and avoiding gossip while urging members to live up to ideals. Irene Huntington sang. Meetings will pause until after Thanksgiving due to revival services in churches.
Franklin College cultivates a new college band realized after persistent work by Professor Depp. The group organized after several practices and showed life at the recent football game. A director is hoped to be secured to build the band into a value adding, enthusiasm generating asset for the college.
Simultaneous revival services in Franklin churches began this week and will continue for at least two weeks. The events are seen as beneficial for students and supported by pastors Mary Sturgeon, ex-’14, and Janet Van Nuys, ex-’15. Janet Van Nuys attended the game Thursday.
The Franklin College Alumni Association notes new life memberships and growing support from alumni. Miss Almyra Huckleberry of the class of 1911 donated fifteen dollars, placing herself in active contact with the association for life. Sixteen members have taken life membership since reorganization, while others maintain annual dues. The fund earns interest for a permanent endowment supporting the association and the college’s endeavors as reflected in The Franklin weekly. Page three continues.
