Moraine Valley Community College schedules a public input session on September 27 to discuss college issues with a focus on a proposed new cultural center. The event invites community views and commentary on the project.
Illinois Uniform Crime Report notes substantial changes from 1975 to 1976 across municipalities Frankfort Midlothian Mokena Orland Park Tinley Park as overall suburban crime index fell 5.7 percent while motor vehicle theft rose 6.1 percent. Statewide serious crime declined 6.0 percent with violent crimes comprising 9.4 percent of the index.
The Frankfort Fall Festival drew a record crowd with about 125000 attendees over the four day weekend. Sunday parade drew 55000 participants as festival chairman Bob Seavey noted higher Saturday and Monday turnouts, while Friday opening attracted 10000. The event, sponsored by the chamber of commerce, faced light rain Sunday but reported minimal trouble beyond traffic and parking issues.
The Frankfort Fire department named parade winners with the Mayor's trophy going to the Frankfort village board for its King Strut. Chicago Heights Parkettes led marching units, Crete township Fire Department Color Guard was second, and Frankfort Public Library district Marching Books and Bookmobile third. Special awards honored Christenson Power Equipment, Farmers Insurance group, and Chesterfield Savings and Loan.
Frankfort village officials credited police fire and chamber staff with a well run Fall Festival drawing about 125 000 over four days. The event featured a carnival Oktoberfest beer garden and 150 arts and crafts exhibitors with no major police problems reported.
The Frankfort Mokena Star announces a Sunday delivery start and a new weekly football special with full Friday and Saturday prep game coverage in the south and southwest suburbs. It will replace the Star-Herald in the Lincoln Way area and expand local sports reporting. Watch for the Sunday edition.
