Hickory Creek Cleanup Push Plans Pollution Controls

Creek Project Funded in Will County Illinois

The Will County Forest Preserve District won a contract to participate in acquiring 438 acres along Hickory Creek as part of a larger Hickory Creek preserve. A $1,397,855 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant, announced by Interior Secretary Cecil D. Andrus, will support the project with state and district matching funds totaling $2,795,710. The plan includes camping, picnicking, nature study, and children's play near the Spring and Hickory Creek Flood Control and Recreation project, improving regional recreation opportunities.

Frankfort Fall Festival kicks off with free band concert

Frankfort chamber officials launch this year’s four day Labor Day weekend festival with a 6:30 p.m. free Lincoln Way high school band concert, followed by the fire department carnival and Oktoberfest beer garden at 8 p.m. The event is expected to draw about 70,000 visitors and features a wide array of food booths arts and crafts and various acts across Saturday and Monday. Parade Sunday and open house at the fire station add to the weekend.

New Star to Offer Wider Local Sports Coverage in Frankfort Mokena

The Frankfort Mokena Star will debut Sunday September 11 with expanded sports coverage across grade school high school and adult programs. Lincoln Way football Joliet JC Lewis University and College of St Francis receive in depth reporting plus a Football Special each Sunday. Thursday sections focus on Frankfort Mokena area sports with Lincoln Way activities golf cross country tennis volleyball and basketball later in the year. Barbara Hester of Mokena is highlighted among Redheads players with spring baseball and track headlines anticipated.
