Summit Hill District Votes Referendum for Taxes and 4 Million Building Plan

Summit Hill school officials approve a three part referendum asking residents to raise education fund tax 50 cents and transportation tax eight cents plus a $4 million building program. The measures would fund a new K through fifth grade Mainstreet facility a Frankfort Square arts room an addition to Summit Hill Junior High and remodeling at Arbury Hills. The plan passed six to one with John LaCognata dissenting. The board cites urgent space and program needs following a year of study and a fact finding committee recommendation.

Controversial garage allowed to remain with turnstile limit

The Mokena zoning commission voted 4-3 to grant Kenneth Heim a variation from the town’s zoning rules for a garage at 19517 Wolf Road. The 54 by 32 foot structure will stay but the 18 foot height and wooden poles are restricted. a 12-foot door must be shortened to seven feet.

Arson Confirmed in Early Oak Forest Temple Fire

Fire destroyed portions of the Oak Forest Baptist Temple and Christian Academy at 149th and Laramie Avenue. Fire Chief David Waite stated the blaze started in both stairwells of the two story building and was first noticed around 3 15 a m Saturday. The cause was identified as arson.
