Glennell Heights Votes to Annex for Municipal Water and Sewer

Glennell Heights residents approve annexation to Mokena to obtain municipal sewer and water after considering a $124 000 project cost and per property shares between 2800 and 3150. A 12 member committee led by James Fagan organized the effort with 38 of 51 homes backing the move.

Open House Showcases Mokena Police Quarters

Visitors at Mokena Open House toured the village’s expanded police offices and faced mock finger printing and brief confinement. The display featured Chief Harold Fitch and two inmates identified as Ray Westlund and Wilbur Teske, father of Village President Robert Teske.

Mokena Open House Draws 710 Visitors and Could Return

Village officials call Sundays open house a success with about 710 people touring the village hall. Engstrom and the board praised the informal setting and community group participation. The event showcased facilities, police demonstrations, school band performances, and tours of the sewer plant and fire station. President Teske suggested repeating the event next year, hoping to attract even more attendees.

Frankfort Square park district and Hoffman-Rosner faced an impasse after attorney for H and R offered a 3500 settlement. The district seeks 20000 for unfinished landscaping and seeding at three park sites, with bids to be opened June 9 as exact costs are sought.

Retiring Mokena educator Minnie Pester recalls 29 years

Minnie Pester will retire in June ending a 29 year teaching career in District 159. She taught at McGouwen South Holland Doctors Orland Park and Mokena unknown years with seven former students returning as teachers. She faced past attitudes toward women and discipline and developed a study skills program for middle schoolers.
