Route 45 widening and resurfacing planned south of 159th

Illinois IDOT includes a 2 million dollar project to widen and resurface Route 45 from 159th to 179th streets in the FY1978 road program. Gov. James Thompson announced the 512 million Illinois plan to rehabilitate existing highways, mentioning 525 miles to be widened or rebuilt and 281 bridges to be repaired. Completion targets include Route 45 north to 143rd by October 1, with paving from 151st to 159th finished by May and a turn lane into Orland Square by July 13, plus curbs gutters signals medians and landscaping.

Frankfort Expands Curb Side Mail Service

Frankfort adopts curb side delivery to speed mail and ease post office workload. Postmaster Bernard Mandella says the change, begun April 23, aims to shorten routes and cut delays as population grows.

Mokena District to Hire Six for Media Unit

The board approved a $50 000 CETA grant via Will County to hire six workers to assist Belinda Pala in compiling classroom materials and cataloging library resources. The program runs through March 31, 1978, with positions paid at 4 per hour and strict Will County and income eligibility rules. Lincoln Way Band Takes Third at Illinois Honors Concert

The Lincoln Way Community High School concert wind ensemble placed third in the Illinois Honors Concert Band competition held May 7 at the Krannert Center, Urbana. Wheeling and Willowbrook placed first and second, with judges from Michigan Indiana and Bowling Green universities. The ensemble's final concert is May 22 at 3 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Voters Approve Joliet Junior College Tax Referendum

Voters approved the Joliet Junior College tax referendum by a three to one margin. The measure authorizes the board to shift tax rates from the bond and mortgage fund to operating funds including educational and building maintenance. A 7.5 cent rate change was approved: five cents to the educational fund and 2.5 cents to the building maintenance fund.
