Indicted Killer Escapes From Tinley Park Center

A Chicago man indicted for murder in 1975 escaped Thursday from the Tinley Park Mental Health center. The escape appears pre arranged, with the suspect fleeing at 3 p.m. to an awaiting black and yellow Ford or Mercury and driving toward Interstate 80. Police seek the man, about 34, deemed insane in 1977, who was transferred to Tinley Park for diagnosis and faces murder charges in Chicago.

Pheasant Ridge groups plan lawsuit over condo dispute

The Pheasant Ridge Condominium Corporation files a suit seeking resolution to drainage and other issues with Hillcrest Builders Capitol Federal Savings and Loan and the village. About 60 percent of residents support the action alleging missed engineering specs an accounting gaps and lack of on site inspections by the village. The case aims to settle turnover and funding concerns governing the approximately 50 acre subdivision in Mokena.

Tiles Delay Puts Lincoln-Way East Opening At Risk

Lincoln-Way East high school in Frankfort faces a four week delay as floor tile installation shifts from March 28 to soon after, delaying the opening of the $5 million facility for freshmen and sophomores. Correction on Leyerle quotation in The Star Herald

New Lenox Supt Arnold Tyler to retire after 31 years in education

After 31 years in public education, New Lenox grade school superintendent Arnold Tyler will retire July 1. He plans to split time between Terre Haute Indiana and Florida, travel, and saturate himself with leisure. He cites stabilizing district finances as a factor and notes the district has grown to seven schools and 2,520 students.
