Flanagan votes no as New Lenox approves K Mart plan

The New Lenox village board approved a 6-1 vote for a K Mart development at Route 30 and I 80, with Trustee Martin Flanagan dissenting. The 19 acre project includes sewer and water funding negotiated to cost about 150000 to install lines and possible village payments up to 50000 more, backed by sales taxes and five year terms. Fire district concerns cite water supply risks and potential need for extra tanks and tanker-pumpers. Flanagan argued the developer should pay more and questioned tax projections and overall impact on local businesses.
