Hoang Tran, son of a Vietnamese family resettled in Mokena by St. Mary and United Methodist Churches, attends a christening at St. Mary Church on Sunday. The event captures a time of celebration with a hint of puzzlement in the festive mood.
The Mokena plan commission calls the forest preserve district land buy for Spring and Hickory creeks a major asset to the village and urges support for acquiring about 2000 acres with $6 million in bonds. The plan would use two earthen dams, permit a sewage plant, and keep open space while helping flood control near Joliet.
The Frankfort Teachers' association urged District 1570 officials to adopt a 10 point plan including more staff and expanded benefits for the 1976-77 year. Spokesman Ron Elmore cited a need for teachers' aides in large classes and at Frankfort school where none exist. He also urged reducing teacher load to six classes daily and employing substitutes for all absences.
Will county sheriff's police arrested Stanley Wallace 23 and his mother Dorothy 50 along with his 15-year-old brother after a six month investigation yielded an estimated 200000 in stolen tools. The trio were taken into custody at the Wallace farm on River road in Lincoln Estates near Frankfort. Hundreds of hand tools were confiscated found in multiple buildings on the secluded property.
The Great Lakes Naval academy rock band Lifeboat performed at Bremen High School. Page 2 features a full page of pictures documenting the event. Chicago Christian’s Class A Pontiac Supersectional timetable is set for Tuesday night. Primary voting recommendations for Illinois Eighth District appear on Page 10.
After 12 years on the New Lenox District 122 board and three as president Hobbs will not seek re election. He cites mounting personal and business pressures and time demands from the zoning board and plan commission. Several incumbents seek new terms and three challengers enter the race with petitions due by March 19.
A total of nine candidates seek seats in four Lincoln Way area districts. Mokena District 159 leads with five candidates for three three year terms while Summit Hill District 161 has no filings. Frankfort 157C has one candidate for the grade school post and two incumbents on the Frankfort district board may not run. Three candidates file for Lincoln Way High District 210 seats. Ron Schaper not seeking reelection. Filing runs Feb 25 to Mar 19 with elections on Apr 10.
