Mokena Teen Club Back In Business

Mokena officials heard that the town teen program is returning with the help of Aunt Martha’s and Lewis University student Dennis Diemer. Rich McFadden said Friday sessions at the Mokena Civic Center will run 6 30 to 9 30 p m beginning March 11 with activities and spin off athletic pursuits. Teens will help run parts of the program while adults stay in low profile roles. The effort aims to give youth a constructive venue and reduce aimless street time. Aunt Martha’s involvement follows a grant to extend services to eastern Will County. volunteers and foster homes are sought.

Entrance Test Set at Lincoln Way High School

Lincoln Way high school will hold its Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills for incoming freshmen on Saturday. Eighth graders will be transported by L W buses from their grade schools at 8 a.m. and will be bused back as close to 3 45 as possible according to a school spokesman.

Village Budget Plan Splits Brightwood Street Rehab

Mokena village President Will Tuttle proposes a two stage two year Brightwood street rehab costing about 60000 funded by a mix of state MFT dollars and municipal bonds. Some officials favor bonds while others push smaller bond use and keep MFT funds for other streets. A March 14 board vote will decide, with bonds potentially raising about eight dollars annually for a home assessed at 10000.
