Blood Draw Saturday in Frankfort Blood Drive

A community blood draw coordinated by Frankfort groups will run from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ Frankfort. Glennell Heights annexation boosts Mokena population

Glennell Heights joins Mokena after months of talks to gain access to the village water and sewer system. The 50 homes shift population toward Mokena and may add about $2,000 yearly in state taxes until 1980. Officials study how residents will pay for extensions via special assessment or a special taxing district.

Brightwood Gets Street Refurbishment Under Village Action

The Mokena village board approved a $36,509 Delta Construction bid to resurface Brightwood streets, with final coat bids to follow around $17,500. The project aims for completion by summer end, addressing prior resident complaints while drainage remains unchanged. separately 2,550 feet of streets will be resurfaced using motor fuel tax funds, with bids not to exceed $20,000 and targeted completion by mid July.

Sisters Reunited After 63 Years In Sweden Visit

Dorothy DesForges of Tinley Park traveled to Stockholm to reunite with her sister Edith Hedman after 63 years apart. The two siblings, separated by family tragedy and language barriers since 1950, finally met during a 45 day visit sparked by loving children and grandchildren.
