Frankfort and Summit Hill Lose CDB School Funds

The Frankfort Square and Summit Hill districts were denied Capital Development Board grants for new buildings delaying planned expansions. Summit Hill faces about 2 million dollars in added classroom space with reapplication planned for 1977, while Frankfort contemplates alternative options as enrollment rises toward 1979 80.

Mokena OKs Marilyn Estates Annexation Amid Controversy

The Mokena village board approved the Marilyn Estates annexation 4-0 led by President Will Tuttle with concerns over sewer and water funding. The 103.5 acre project by Mokena Development between Wolf and Osage roads south of Route 30 plans 86 lots with an estimated 65 000 per lot. Opponents argued it harms the rural character and raises tax and service issues.

Toward the Finals in Two Baseball Tournaments

The Star-Herald reports two finals moving into brackets this week at three sites. The National Baseball Congress state title runs at Lewis University and Midlothian for men, while STAR-HERALD sponsors the boys 15 and 16 tournament for the championship. A Place in the Sun day camp closes its summer with a Broadway review featuring 22 numbers at Eisenhower Performing Arts center in Blue Island.

Will County Threshermen Steam Threshing Show Opens

The 14th annual Steam Threshing show begins today at the Will County Fairgrounds Peotone and runs through Sunday with a parade of power daily at 2 pm and 7 pm Friday and Saturday. Exhibits include steam engines tractors antique cars and a giant 30 60 Aultman Taylor and Runely Oil Pull with flea markets crafts and demonstrations. Admission 1 50 adults children under 12 free.
