Michael J. Pence resigns as industrial arts teacher at Lincoln Way Community High School after a lawsuit over his bus driving duties and a dispute with administrators Joe Kruzich and Lee Rosenquist who he says twisted the truth to downgrade him as a professional.
Pence declines comment on pending lawsuit as board hears a ruling dated June 9 1976. Supt Kruzich says Pence may have to answer and hints at his day in court while details of the federal civil rights action unfold and a summary judgment deadline approaches.
New Lenox district officials approved a 6 percent average raise for about 50 non certified staff including clerical custodial and transportation workers retroactive to July 1. Bus drivers were not included. Also approved were two new teachers and three resignations.
Tinley Park park district asks residents to avoid channel two upper side band for district business including day camps maintenance and security. Side bands installed in district vehicles two weeks ago with base station at headquarters.
A 14 resident meeting in New Lenox formed the South Suburban Freeway Coalition to block a proposed 71 mile freeway linking the Calumet Expressway near Crete with northern and western suburbs. Led by John Wisnewski the group plans data gathering, education campaigns, and opposition strategies as land purchases loom in 1977 78. Eugene Schwartz of Thorn Creek Preservation backs newsletters and studies to compare energy costs and benefits while urging better use of existing roads.
New Lenox residents study maps to challenge the proposed South Suburban Freeway alignment. John Wisnewski leads a newly formed Coalition organizing a Thursday meeting. John Zaborsky of New Lenox is named vice-president.
Frederick Guendling Jr and Willard A Barenz were named to fill vacancies on the Mokena School District 159 board at a special meeting. Their terms run until April 1977. both formerly served on the board. The panel approved selling bonds worth 207 844.41 to Channel Newman Securities at 5.83 percent net interest for ten years. A trust fund adjustment with the Capital Development Board allocates 445 742 to cover the district's 30 percent share of building costs. A resignation by Mark Frazier, a six year art teacher, was accepted.
Lincoln-Way Community high school presents a 1976 77 budget showing receipts of 4 870 32 92 dollars and disbursements of 5 158 864 92 dollars with a carry over balance. Supt Joe Kruzich notes state aid loss and estimates property value at 147 million dollars and says the district should remain in the black by June 1977. Public viewing runs 30 days from July 19 at L W high school with a public hearing set for August 26 at 8 p m during the board meeting to approve the budget.
