Nineteen Lincoln Way area residents filed nominating petitions as the Monday deadline neared. In Mokena incumbents Clyde Bond and Peter Lovrich Jr. are unopposed for two unexpired six year terms. New Lenox shows a four-candidate race for two six-year seats. Frankfort Square has six nominees for April 5 four-year and two two-year terms. Frankfort community park district also lists seven candidates for two two-year and two four-year terms after district expansion. Write-ins remain allowed with age and residency requirements.

Mokena officials unanimously approve rezoning and annexation of 20 acres for a 21 store development along Route 45 across from Arbury Hills. The project expands Normal Towers to 70 acres and may include a larger 100 acre mixed use corridor with potential village ownership of sewer and water lines to boost revenues.
The Regional Transportation Authority projects a 1977 78 budget deficit near 56 million. A gasoline sales tax could raise 72 80 million yearly while a parking tax would yield about 5 million annually. The full board must approve and the governor and legislature must receive the proposal by January 31. Six of nine directors must back the tax.
The joint transportation panel for southwest suburbs and Joliet won support to stay in business after 12 of 22 invited municipalities sent reps to Tinley Park. Founders Murawski and Durkin said the group acts as catalysts and will push for broader input before RTA and Rock Island policies are set. Donald Rasmussen was named assistant chair and Alice Gorsky temporary assistant chair.
