Frankfort and Mokena Agree To Study Waste Water Plans

Frankfort and Mokena approve a joint three part study to plan aging sewer systems. A three member per village planning committee will oversee progress with funding from EPA grants covering up to 75 percent of costs. The total project costs are about 7000 dollars with each village paying roughly 1000 to 2000 dollars. The study runs March to July under Robert E. Hamilton as director from Frankfort Mulford service.

Unified Fares Proposed by RTA for Six-County Area

RTA staff propose a unified fare plan for six counties with a flat 45 cent basic South Suburban SafeWay fare. Transfers within SafeWay stay free, 10 cents to CTA or other lines. Suburban city bus fares stay 30 cents with 25 cent cross-system transfers. Commuter rail to be included later.

Beard Contest Plans for Fourth of July at Mokena Chamber

The Mokena Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a beard contest as part of Fourth of July activities with categories for best groomed greyest reddest longest and curliest. An entrance fee of $1 and a before picture are required. Awards are monetary and given after the Independence Day parade. Additional items include Outstanding Citizens Award banquet tentatively for late February and an annual golf outing at Silver Lake Country Club on August 16.

Officials from Frankfort School District 1570 deny reports of seeking a unit district to block New Lenox District 122. Supt. Leroy Olson says 1570 will inform and involve all affected boards before any boundary changes are considered in the Lincoln Way area.
