Lincoln-Way considers new early graduation plan amid protest

Lincoln-Way Community High School moves to revise a policy barring early graduates from formal commencement. A New Lenox parent urged cap and gown for her junior daughter, claiming hard work and credit hours justify participation. Proposals from Hans Mueller and James Fagan would limit or expand options for sixth or seventh semester graduates with required deposits and counselor meetings.

Lincoln Way Co-op to Host Christmas Tree Recycling Day

The Lincoln-Way Area Recycling Co op will hold its annual Christmas Tree Recycling Day on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm in the east parking lot at Lincoln Way High School. Trees are mulched and the mulch is available to residents who take it home. The program was conceived by Lincoln Way’s Environmental Action and Technology class.

Local governments call for April elections across L W area

More than 50 offices will be on the April ballots across Frankfort Mokena New Lenox and New Lenox township library. Positions include village presidents clerks trustees township supervisor clerks assessors highway commissioners and park and school board openings. Temperature Change Blamed for New Lenox Water Main Break

A warm spell followed arctic conditions caused a major eight inch water line rupture near Hickory creek and Cedar road in New Lenox. The line cracked 200 feet west of Cedar road and 75 feet south of Hickory creek, prompting a village water shutdown until repairs by an eight member crew using a jackhammer and backhoe. Schools St Jude’s and Bentley faced early dismissals while Haven remained served, and district officials tested its Emergency Closing Plan via a calling tree to ensure parents could be reached.
