Consolidated High School District 230 names Robert Catlett as acting superintendent with duties starting September 19. An editorial on the appointment appears on Page 4 along with features in Inside Mag and other sections including obituaries and letters to the editor.
The Summit Hill School District 161 moves forward with a three part referendum to ease a budget deficit and fund a long term construction program. A 50 cent education fund tax increase and a special election set for October 18 are proposed.
Construction on LaGrange road in Orland Park aims to finish by October 1 if weather cooperates, with a latest finish of October 30. The project, still delaying local businesses, will resume south of 151st Street this week, with traffic kept to one half of the street at a time to access businesses.
A planned benefit party to raise bail for eight indicted in the July 23 Will County kidnapping near Frankfort was halted by a circuit court injunction. The event, to be held on a New Lenox farm, was halted after prosecutors said organizers lacked proper permits. Indictments name Michael Wallerstedt Steven Fehr Rebecca Hopman Terry Fellers Joseph Corrado Mark Hobson Thomas Schofield and a 16 year old, charged with aggravated kidnapping armed robbery and related counts in the John Reinhofer case.
Will County board, divided 14-12 along party lines, again blocked Ted Grabavoy’s bid to appoint Ruth Donahue to the seat vacated by her late husband. The coalition, amid ongoing lawsuits from a June 13 session, upheld its Angeline Dew appointment and questioned animal control duties by Dr. Lowell Webb.
Tinley Park police blotter records 13 incidents at the Mental Health center in the first weeks of the month with many patients listed as missing. Officers note ongoing wandering cases and an agreement on police access discussed after two Illinois Senate hearings on mental health.
