New Lenox plans a two story village hall on a donated two acre site funded by about 400000 in Title I federal grants under the Public Works Act. Additional projects include sewer mains and Cedar road work. Site location kept secret during negotiations. land purchase not allowed with grants.
New Lenox faces rapid growth and recurring floods as village officials seek federal aid. Officials point to unemployment rates in Will County at 8.2 percent to qualify for a first come, first served Title program totaling about 100 million for Illinois, plus 2 billion for Title II and III programs including CETA and sewage projects. A village clerk, planner, and engineer are requested to handle expansion, with Title II potentially funding sewage and other facilities to relieve backups.
The Illinois Commerce Commission staff filed a motion to dismiss Citizens Utility's bid for higher sewer and water rates. Hearing dates set for September 1 and 2 may be canceled if the commission grants the motion. Citizens serves Westhaven Fernway and Arbury Hills with investigations continuing.
The Mokena district will hold a public hearing on August 25 at 6 p m to view plans for a new public library at Union and Cross streets. Trustees recently enacted a resolution to seek public approval via referendum, with planning under way and cost details to be announced at the hearing.
Lincoln Way East High School may host outdoor lighting for the Frankfort Community Park District tennis courts in exchange for park use of school facilities. The agreement would require district liability coverage and school control of scheduling with high school activities prioritized, pending final terms.
