Summit Hill boards approves 1.8 million budget for 77-78
Summit Hill school officials approve a 1.8 million dollar budget for the 1977 78 fiscal year at the August budget hearing. The plan shows a 110 000 dollar carry over deficit from inadequate revenues. The district will issue 110 000 dollars in first year tax anticipation warrants to balance the books. A three part November referendum seeks a 50 cent education tax increase and an eight cent transportation tax raise plus a long term 4 million building project to erase the deficit. District 161 base valuation is 20 million with allocations for education operation bonds interest transportation and other funds. The board also approves selling a classroom at Ann Rutledge school to the Lincoln Way Area Special Education Cooperative for 15 000 dollars due to reduced kindergarten enrollment.

Terry Davia, 32, a former South Holland Junior High teacher and Merrill Lynch analyst, was appointed to fill Summit Hill School District 161 board vacancy after Carol Nicol's resignation. He will serve the unexpired three and a half year term and aims to protect education quality and prudent tax use. The Board of Education approved permanent security systems for all four Summit Hill schools after seven summer break-ins caused about $5,900 in damage. Installation costs total $8,084 with $263 monthly service, funded by $15,000 from Lincoln Way Area Co operative for Special Education. Private guards will cover nights until installation.
