OBrien and Rhoads campaign debts show heavy spending
In the March 16 primary south suburban candidates US Representative George OBrien and state Senator Mark Rhoads ran costly campaigns. FEC records show OBrien owed 31773 and Rhoads 46398 at April 15, while opponents Derwinski and Erlenborn closed the period with money in the bank. Derwinski ended with 4208 after adding 34901, aided by major donors including McCollum and Sachaklian and several PACs. OBrien's quarterly report shows only 961 in the bank plus debt, with 238608 raised and 41803 spent. Major gifts came from Peyla family and McClory's committee. a loan of 8000 from Joliet bank was also recorded.

Oldani fights for tax reform in Will County board
Manhattan township resident Joseph Oldani continues his bid to replace property taxes with a local income tax. He plans to urge the Will County Board to place a November ballot question on adopting a local income tax to fund schools and replace real estate taxes. He has about 1000 petition signatures and notes examples from Ohio where local income taxes exist.

Mokena Aims at State Home Town Award
Mokena officials and community leaders pitched the village’s progress to a three member panel from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs as part of the states Home Town award program.
