Will county approves an amendment to the liquor ordinance to prohibit and penalize parents who allow minors to drink on their premises. The 18 to 7 vote sparked concerns over privacy and vagueness while backers cited peer pressure and school support.
About six Mokena residents voiced objections to Gas City Incorporated's 23 acre truck stop motel and restaurant complex at 191st street and Route 45. They questioned liquor licenses traffic noise and the risk of undesirables, while officials argued planning can mitigate issues and recommended zoning changes at tomorrow's village board meeting.
Will county officials rejected a $13,683 bid from Ben B. Cathay Construction to convert the south first floor hallway of the county building into a jury holding area in a 13-14 vote. Critics questioned the need amid Sears building renovations and favored cheaper, matched materials. The project will go back out for bids as the county proceeds with space plans.
A months long dispute over RV regulations in Mokena ends with zoning commissioners recommending a less strict rule banning front yard parking except on approved driveways. The village board will decide at tomorrow’s meeting. Temporary parking may be allowed with advance police notice.
