Frankfort trustees vote 5 to 1 to turn the village parking lot at Kansas and White streets into a green space after the Fall Festival. The plan estimates a $7000 cost and questions arose about festival impact and funding sources. Warning opposed, suggesting a community fundraiser or Lions Club approach.
Frankfort swore in Amos Ted Massey Kenneth Biel s and Ernie Hinrichs as new trustees at a village board session on Monday. Outgoing trustees Richard Krynicki and Alan Mager did not seek reelection or win reelection by slim margins. Village President Glenn Waring praised the two departing trustees and announced one year appointments to the planning and zoning commission with Virgil Coleman named acting chairman. Other named members include Mel DuBois Wayne DePorto Don Melcher Ron Karrels Eris Rudman and Myrtie Diment, who also serves as Warning Charter Service secretary.
Frankfort officials adopted an 1988-64 working budget of 1,410,287 reflecti ng a six percent increase. Three percent funds across the board raises for village workers and three percent targets sewer line replacements on Linden to Center roads and near the Penn Central tracks west of Maple Street. Each project is budgeted at 16,000 with camera inspections revealing collapsed sections. The budget was discussed item by item with some figures pending revision. A 7,500 allotment for a new building inspector car drew questions but was deemed not mandatory to spend. The budget takes effect May 1 as revisions continue. The board also awarded 73,332.91 for 1988 street repairs, the lowest bid. In other business, Frankfort officials noted a Governor's Home Town award entry, amended liquor ordinance to allow package wine and beer sales at Mr. K's Back Door Pub, approved a liquor license transfer to Pepi's Family Liquors, and granted a side yard variance for a commercial building at 635 Center Road.
Residents accuse Frankfort firefighters of slow response to the April 24 house fire at 145 Pfaff Drive while a new 911 system in Lincoln Way faces criticism. Eyewitnesses say responders appeared disorganized and early reports of arson are disputed as neighbors describe the scene and the system's glitches.
