District 161 petition seeks reversal of school bond sale
Nearly 1,000 signatures from District 161 residents were presented to the board in a community effort to overturn a decision to sell bonds for a classroom addition at Indian Trail. The board kept the bond plan, awaiting Moody Rating and buyer interest for a $385,000 issue. A poll of 680 families found 53 percent favored redrawing attendance, 36 percent supported new boundaries, 6 percent favored leasing an existing building, and 1.5 percent backed the Indian Trail addition.

District 161 drops plan for education tax referendum
Summit Hill school leaders scrapped a proposed education fund tax increase after residents showed reluctance to support higher taxes. Budgets cuts totaling about 250000 over three years were followed by recent staff losses, while a softened finance outlook and modest teacher pay raises reduced the urgency. The board cited community sentiment and a defunct finance committee report as factors in abandoning the referendum.
