Gas City drops truck stop plan in Mokena development

Gas City Inc cancels the truck stop portion of its 24 acre commercial project at the southwest corner of 191st Street and Route 45 in Mokena after a village board meeting. Blindness drives blind cross country walk for belief

Bill Morgan, blind since age ten, treks 3,763 miles coast to coast to prove limits are self imposed. The 36 year old from Garden City Idaho began in Astoria Oregon and reached Chicago Heights after 13 miles in four and a half hours with a news photographer in tow. He credits the National Federation of the Blind for courage and notes society often labels the blind as pitiable.

Mokena Board Approves 1983 84 Levy Ordinance

The Mokena board of trustees approved the 1983 84 tax levy for general fund and specified accounts including 59500 for general corporate, 1000 for Emergency Services Disaster agency, 1000 for audit fund, 17500 for police protection, 4900 for school crossing guards, 52300 for Illinois Municipal Retirement, and 1000 for chlorination fund. The meeting approved returning a fire alarms ordinance to committee, funding half of a sidewalk project if money exists, disbursed revenue sharing funds to Senior Services Center of Will County and the village library district, and settled engineering fees with McBride Engineering for 13113.45.
