The Lincoln-Way High operetta The Witchs Curse begins a three day run in Frankfort with Gordon Case as Adam and Gail Gregory as Mad Margaret. Sir Despard Murgatroyd, played by a yet unnamed actor, faces a day of crimes including a potential whip strike amid the witch curse.
Voters in Will County and surrounding areas prepare for a high turnout next Tuesday. Analysts note possible 65 000 ballots cast in the county, with five precincts in Frankfort Township and changes in New Lenox. Democrats push Kennedy Kerner strategy to flip the county, while others expect Republicans to hold Will County. Local races include State's Attorney Masters against Lynch and clerk Swansbro against Houlihan. Mokena pupils in history class report Nixon beating Kennedy 110 to 28, reflecting elder views.
Mokena and New Lenox officials report sewer trench fills settled after heavy rains causing some spots to cave in. Contractors Normyle & Berg near completion, with mid December target for the treatment plant. The New Lenox Garden Club to host a guest night. a Chamber committee will attend future village board meetings.
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mokena will mark its 110th founding anniversary with a 10 a.m. service and communion this Sunday, plus the dedication of a new parsonage on LaPorte road as part of the Building for the Future program. The church, organized in 1850 by German immigrants, has a long history including prior sites and pastors.
A Frankfort PTA panel program is planned for next Wednesday November 9 at the school. President Mrs. Connard Hankinson will open at 7 30 p m with Leonard Patterson as moderator. Panelists include Frederick Withington and Rodman Smelling from Morgan Park Military Academy A Hunter Chapman Lincoln Way High School and Paul Lambrecht. Each panelist gets 15 minutes to discuss his topic and questions are invited from attendees. The event is open to the public with hostesses led by Mrs. Paul Lambrecht.
The Orland Park Firemen Auxiliary sponsors a card and bunco party next Wednesday evening November 9 at 8 p.m. in the fire hall.
Ida Harmening 83 lifelong Frankfort resident died Friday October 28 at home. Funeral Sunday October 30 at St Peter's United Church of Christ Frankfort with Rev Erich Bizer officiating. Burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Survived by daughter Isabella. husband Karl died in 1945. daughter Eunice died in 1921.
The Lincoln Way Future Farmers of America won the Section 8 parliamentary contest held at Braidwood High. It marks their third banner in four years with Dale Meyer earning a gold medal as top secretary, and Jack Gretz and Charles Turnbough receiving gold for top individual floor group.
Edward B. Martie 84 bank officer and former mayor of Mokena died Thursday, Oct. 27 at his Front Street home after a recent heart attack. Born Oct. 12, 1876 in Orland Township he was vice president of Mokena State Bank for 28 years and served as village trustee 1925-31 and mayor 1931-35. Survived by wife Clara two sons Howard and Willard two brothers two sisters and other relatives. Funeral services were held Sunday Oct. 30 at St. John's United Church of Christ Mokena with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements by West End Funeral Home Chicago Heights.
The TrieKena neighborhood Girls Scout meeting will be held near Wednesday November 9 at 1 p.m. at New Lenox Methodist Church. Mrs. Almeds Knebloch will lead the gathering.
