Interest in Calvary Baptist Church Forms in Lincoln Estates
In the 1930s Thomas Jennings started a Sunday school in Lincoln Estates with Ann Rutledge school facilities. Rabbi Rev Waldemer aided by musicians and teachers helped grow the group into Calvary Baptist Church, organized December 1939 in the Letts home. The church built a 79th Ave building in 1940, became self supporting, and supports a missionary in Argentina.

Mokena Plans to Enforce Weed-Cutting and Invest Funds
The village board plans to enforce weed cutting on vacant lots and other property with daily fines from ten to fifty dollars after notice. They will invest seven thousand three hundred dollars from bond reserve funds in U.S. government bonds to earn interest. Two trees on Third Street will be removed for street reconditioning and a water tank project funded by Abroad Industries will proceed. Renumbering of houses and streets for mail delivery was discussed with committee work to finish before July 18. Bids will be sought for materials to maintain village streets in the coming months.

Seek Driver Who Fled Accident Near Mokena
State and county police search for 18 year old Pretzel of Mokena after his car crashed into a tree at Francis Road and Branberry Drive. He fled on foot from the demolished vehicle as warrants were issued for reckless driving and leaving the scene.

Youth Driver Escapes Injury in Route 6 Collision
Leonard Fears of Route 1 Mokena escaped injury when his car collided with a second vehicle at Route 6 and Ruth Road just west of Marley Road. William Odom of Joliet, 24, was treated at St. Joseph's hospital for a chin laceration and two broken teeth after the crash. he was ticketed for improper passing. Fears' passenger David Loucks, 16, was uninjured. Odom said he did not see Fear's signals in time. During summer Will County Auxiliary police will meet monthly at a supervised shooting range on Nicholson farm near Lincoln Estates. the next meeting is Sunday July 16 at 9:00 a.m.

Bruno Bellazzini 40 of Chilecago was jailed on a warrant from Mrs. Alice Wis hover after he allegedly came to her farm and made indecent remarks. He is held on 3000 dollar bond. Separately Paul Himes reported a dog owned by Mario Sabec killed several of his chickens on June 25 and July 1 after breaking a leash.

Viokena Woman Injured In Route 30 Auto Crash
Anita Evens, 22, Route 1 Mokena, suffered back neck and leg injuries after her car left Route 30 east of New Lenox. She was thrown from the vehicle and taken to Silver Cross Hospital by ambulance. Louise Davis, 28, Route 2 Gougar Rd, was admitted after becoming ill while riding in a sheriff’s patrol car at Route 30 entrance.
