Gerd Surber hardware man was injured while starting his truck last Friday morning. The crank flew from its place striking his head and causing a fall that broke the third finger of his right hand. He is recovering with his arm in a sling.
Funeral services for Logan Houston world war veteran were held Friday afternoon three miles from here. The American Legion led the ceremony Rev Jackson of the First M E Church Rantoul officiated Interment followed at Rantoul. He had diabetes for nearly three years and died Wednesday. He is survived by his wife three children Doris Arthur and Robert three brothers Sheridan Jasper and sister Beulah.
A series of birth notices from the county includes a daughter Donna Dean born to Mr. and Mrs. Everett Vanaman west of Winamac. Also listed are daughters born to Charles [el dewitz] of Medaryville on Sept 17, to A L Parks near Indianapolis at the home of J B Campbell in Princesville on Sept 12, to Albert Swain Sept 13, to George Korrecht west of town on Sept 15, and to Floyd Whistler on Sept 16.
The Missionary society of the Christian church will hold a food market at Clark's grocery on Saturday September 29, starting at 10 o'clock. Proceeds support church missions and local community aid.
The second annual field day starts at 9 30 a m Wednesday September 1 at Paul tragile s farm then visits Lewis White s and H P Bremer east of Medaryville ending at the M E church for a basement dinner Purdue professors Leroy Jones and H W Fitting will lecture in the church and answer questions Engles Whites and Bremer s farms are cited as models any farm or family can follow their poultry practices A large crowd is expected after a sizable turnout last year
Reverend Reisen of the M E church travels to Lafayette on Tuesday to attend the Western conference meeting held there this week.
An all day gathering of Christian Workers was hosted at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hayworth last Friday. The group enjoyed quilting, a social time, a fried chicken dinner, a talk by former member Mrs. Merica, and music. Out of town guests included Mrs. Merica and granddaughter Shirley of Rensselaer and Mrs. Chambers of Columbus, with Mrs. Hathaway of Newark and Mrs. Malissa Mayworth of Soldiers Home, Lafayette. A bouquet of dahlias from Mrs. Thomas Wise was displayed at the Tribune.
County records show multiple real estate transfers from 1923 and 1925 including Sarah H. Chandler and Frank O. Chandler in White Post Township, Gust A. Kreuger to John Clarke in Franklin Township, Rosa A. Kinnegan to John Krueger Jr. in Princesville, Henry McDowell Commissioner to Jay H. Hedges, and William H. Fikenberry to Lawrence B. Hackett with various fractional sections and lots noted.
Corbet Lee Graves weds Helen Anna Marie Rausch in a ceremony reported by the local social column. The event connects the Graves and Rausch families and marks a notable social milestone for both communities.
The Vans versus Marbaugh case was continued. The 1ist National Bank of Medaryville versus Chester B. McClellan was dismissed at cost of plaintiff. Pederil Chemical Co versus Ben M Mee was venued to Stirke County.
Final reports approved in estates of Anthony Swayzee and Bavan C Reinholt with executors discharged and administrators released. Harold Ward jailed on rape charge, to be sent to Jeffersonville reformatory after arrest in Crown Point. Local cases include Henry Pettengill fined for illegal liquor, bond reduced for John Brown on rape, Albert Galbreath case dismissed, Maron F Biddle suit dismissed, and Lincoln National Life Insurance foreclosure and sheriff sale of 240 acres in Cass and Jasper townships with Owen Horner appointed receiver.
A severe farm accident on Chas Foster’s acreage 2 1/2 miles southeast of Monon injured William Friend as he operated a silo. He was caught in machinery, resulting in loss of private parts. He received immediate medical care and was taken to Home Hospital Lafayette for an operation and is expected to recover.
Mrs. Charles Wood aged 60 died at her Beaver Township home between twelve and one Saturday night after a period of illness. Funeral services were held at Paul's Chapel with Rev. Jacob Fross officiating, burial in Paul's Chapel cemetery. Hundreds attended, with many distant relatives listed from Kansas City Manchester Watseka Kokomo Francesville and Mr. Air.
Rally Day is set for Sunday October 7 at the Christian Sunday School with a call for all to attend and help achieve a record breaking turnout. Jesse Pratt Hubbel, en route from New York to Chicago, visits family in town overnight, meeting relatives and friends. Weekend guests include Frank C McCarthy Jr of Chicago and J J Owens with son Robert and daughter Dorothy of Oak Park Illinois.
Committees named in the Tribune last week report a successful drive for the Home Hospital quota. A county drive is planned for one day next week to raise the remaining amount in Salem Township. Donors are urged to contribute if they have not yet given.
Last Sunday’s booster meeting at the Methodist church in Francesville filled the auditorium and overflowed into the Sunday school room. The service featured a duet by Mrs Ives and Miss Rhinehart, directed by Rev Terry, with a well received sermon. The next gathering at the Christian church will be led by Rev Firgan on the theme Business and Religion.
After about thirty minutes deliberation the jury found August Kirschbaum guilty of disturbing a public meeting during a Ku Klux Klan speech on the Denham school grounds July 14. He was fined 350. The crowded court heard three lawyers on each side and a judge preside. A defense motion for stay of judgment was filed over affidavit stamping issues. Mrs. Mallissa Hayworth of Lafayette has visited her son James Hayworth nearby.
The first meeting of Eastern Star lodge No. 268 will be held Monday evening in the Masonic hall. All members are urged to be present as this is the opening meeting following the summer vacation.
Mrs Margaret Hill and her daughter Miss Alice Hill left Tuesday for travel through the New England states. They will visit Buffalo New York City Washington and Boston and will spend most of their time with Mr and Mrs A T Patty in Branden Vermont.
A Sunday reunion at the Clarence Brodgon home near Francesville brought together Brodgon relatives from Watseka and Francesville. The gathering featured abundant watermelons and plentiful chickens, with old friends and cousins enjoying a day of reunion, food, and friendly chatter. Participants included Mrs. Chas Martin and daughter, Miss Gertrude, Mr. and Mrs. Hearld Moore, and family, plus Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stiller and others from Francesville and nearby areas.
Emma Daeske, longtime Francesville resident known as Grandma Daeske, has returned to Indianapolis to live with her daughter. She spent time with son George and neighbor Mrs. Fred Shaffer during her Francesville visit and remains a prominent local property owner.
A large crowd attended a Ku Klux Klan parade and lecture. Klansmen in regalia opened the meeting with a religious service as Rev. Van Norman spoke to the assemblage. An American flag, a Bible, and a fiery cross were displayed. Miss Gladys Pearson returned home to Michigan City after visiting friends.
S. S. class No. 6 entertained at the Speiche home with games and snacks. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lehman hosted dinner guests including Mrs. Linda Hathaway of New Jersey and local families for Ross Nelson and Louis Lehman Jr. birthdays.
