Warning issued by Prohibition Commissioner Haynes states non intoxicating fruit juice may be made at home by head of family registering with a tax collector. Intoxicating wine home brews and distilled spirits are forbidden and the limit noted is 200 gallons of wine per year under permit.
M H Rice holds one of the oldest justice of peace dockets for Francesville. March 1857 entries show Macajah Hancock suing New Albany and Salem Railroad for 12 dollars for stock killed and Philander C Colby seeking 29 50 for similar stock loss. 1858 Salem township sues William S Cash for refusing to work his poll tax for 2 50. Trials conducted by Squires Drake and Davisson.
