Congress man Peterson informs Jasper County Democrat publisher Frank Babcock that Nehemih Littlefield democratic county chairman will become postmaster at Rensselaer. Littlefield succeeds Geo E Murray whose resignation was requested for not giving full time to service. Babcock and northern editors face fallout over opposition to recent legislative measures.
William Hayworth prominent Valparaiso fur dealer died Wednesday at age fifty five after a year of nervous trouble and paresis. He formerly lived at Francesville where he married Edith Mattingly and had son Raymond. Survived by wife son three brothers and two sisters the funeral was held Saturday from the family home at 56 Jefferson Street attended by relatives including Mrs John R Hayworth and her daughter Bertha and son James.
The M. B. Ladies Aid Society hosts a chicken fry in the basement of their church on Saturday Sept 20. Menu includes chicken mashed potatoes apple sauce sweet potatoes gravy bread and butter jelly pickles pie and coffee all for 25c. Served from 5 to 8 PM.
An assorted page of late 19th or early 20th century ads features Nectar for the Gods and school supplies at Blue Front, Adler-ika get well products, Chamberlains corn plaster, City Drug Store, Victrola sales, Timy at Ale's restaurant for shoe shines, Holub's millinery with new shapes and winter coats, inviting customers to browse and buy.
The Women’s Christian Temperance Union met September 10 at Mrs. F L Sharrer’s home. Officers for the year were elected including President Mrs W Stigleman and Secretary Mrs J Engle. Delegates to the state convention named, next meeting set for October. Visitors from Winamac attended a Francesville Ladies Aid gathering at Rev F E Miller’s home with a shared dinner and musical entertainment. An all Christian churches county meeting is planned for June 1914.
The notice urges buying onions early from Mrs J C Engle before shipment. It lists phone contact 36 for orders and mentions church events and commercial ads including millinery opening date September 19 20 1912 and various small goods like shoe polish and medicines. public notices include sales and local business offers.
Miss Mabel Manion, considered insane, threatened to shoot her sister-in-law, her young nephew, and Miss Anna Kruger in the Joseph Manion home. Police disarmed her. she was wounded on her thumb and placed under guard. She is to be sent to an institution for the insane, likely Longcliff. Family and neighbors express sympathy and hope for recovery under medical care. City Drug Store advertises office supplies.
