Misfit Marriages Highlight Indiana Divorce Rates 1916
Indiana's state statistician Henry A. Roberts reports 1916 averages show one divorce for every three and a half marriages. From 92 counties, 9,772 divorce petitions were filed and 33,522 marriage licenses issued. 5,778 divorces granted, 2,615 petitions denied. Of granted divorces, 4,377 went to wives and 1,399 to husbands.

John White Dies After Stroke at 77
John White died Sunday evening in Rensselaer after a long illness and a final paralysis attack. He was 77 and a longtime resident who lived most recently with his wife’s family. He leaves two sons Shrry of Rensselaer and Frank of this place, a sister Mrs. Edward Woolman of New Carlisle, and a brother Finley of New Carlisle. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Christian church, with burial in the cemetery east of town.
