River of corpses floods Tokyo after earthquake

In Tokyo the Sumida River carries numerous earthquake victims as crowds panic during the tremors. Bridges collapse and many perish while martial law is imposed across the ruined area. the American embassy is destroyed.

Conference Held Here Monday

The Lafayette District of the M. E. church held its district conference at the M. E. church last Monday and Tuesday with about seventy-five visiting ministers and laymen. Bishop Oldham spoke on Our World Tasks while Rev Baldridge addressed hand enforcement and the gathering praised Christianity’s outlook and brotherhood. The Ladies Aid served meals to the visiting ministers.

County Christian Endeavor Picnic at Winamac

The County Christian Endeavor picnic at Winamac last Monday September 3 drew about twenty five Francesville C E members. Mr Williams of Indianapolis field secretary of the United Christian Endeavor Society spoke on ways to uplift the Endeavor. Attendees enjoyed an interesting program a big picnic dinner and a general good time.

Jones Suffers Second Stroke in Two Years

Custer Indian Scout John Stout Dies in Oklahoma

John Stout aged 96 a former Indian Scout with Gen. Custer at the last stand died at his Delaware home in Nowata Oklahoma He survived the 1876 massacre by hiding in a buffalo carcass and was also a Civil War veteran.

Fiddlers Contest Postponed For Farmer's Picnic

The organizers in Francesville postpone the old fiddlers contest planned for Saturday to respect the Winamac farmers picnic next week. They regret disappointing the fiddlers and horseshow pitchers but promise the event will occur at an earlier date.

Rural letter carrier attends Indianapolis convention

J. W. Beckdolt, Pulaski county rural carrier, attended the Convention of Rural Letter Carriers in Indianapolis at the Severn hotel. He said the routine business was completed and nothing of significance occurred beyond a successful gathering.

Birthday and kinfolk reunion hosted by the Graftons

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grafton entertained relatives and friends at their home on Sunday honoring Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wood and children Della and Willie. Master Cartitz was given a seven candle cake. Attendees included families from Wauska Illinois and Pulaski Indiana, with many children present.

Old Time Residents Visit City

Mr and Mrs John P Priest of Lafayette visited Francesville to check farm interests and reunite with old friends. They lived in Francesville 30 years and in Lafayette 18 years where Priest served as R R agent. The Priests called on editor Judson Fitzpatrick and visited Catlin Illinois visitors also spent time with Rogs Nelson.
