Elkhart County schools adopt a new text Produc tive Farming to fit rural, village, and city schools below high school rank. The book covers plant production animal products and farm management to train farmer's sons and daughters in progressive farming and profits.
The Albert Werner estate barn in Hanging Grove township burned in about thirty minutes Sunday afternoon. Spontaneous combustion from stored hay near the barn is blamed. Tenant Arthur Williamson saved the horses but a calf died. Losses included sixteen tons hay, harness, 500 bushels oats, tools, about $200, and the barn. Williamson was critically ill from the effort.
The Monon will run a round trip excursion from Medaryville to Chicago on Sunday September 8. The train arrives Francesville at 8 05 and returns from Chicago at 11 30 pm. Fare for the round trip is 1.25. The item also notes a baseball result: White Sox versus Cleveland.
Guy Drake of the area south of town bought the William Schleman harness and buggy business in Francesville. The deal closed Monday with Drake taking charge Tuesday. Schleman sold to devote time to a Valparaiso land development while Drake will offer up to date stock and the E M F automobile agency at the store.
J T Lawson has taken charge of W E Spitler & Co hardware store after a purchase contract. He plans to settle permanently and move his family soon. Lawson has engaged G I Lurber of Spencer Indiana and Cecil Bachtenkirker from O T Higgins & Co. The store advertises its bid for local patronage.
The Monon operates a Sunday excursion from Lafayette to Louisville and return. Depart Lafayette at 5 15 am arriving Louisville at noon with return at 8 30 pm. Round trip fare is 1 75.
Albert Beveridge, governor candidate on the Bull Moose ticket, will speak at the courthouse steps in Winamac Wednesday at 3 o'clock. An excursion to Chicago is planned for next Sunday with a fare of 1.25. Miss Maude Sanders of Logan sport visited relatives here this week. Also listed are job ads and a real estate sale offering a six lot property with 7-room house and outbuildings, inquire H A Ames.
The Michigan primaries display the bull moose party’s limited strength. Republican votes reached 146 086 while progressives totaled about 6 600 and Democratic Prohibition votes were normal. Only Wayne County exceeded one thousand progressive votes, with small tallies elsewhere.

Ford Motor Company of Detroit mails a form letter to dealers and branches denying rumors about 1913 Ford prices and policies. It states there will be no dealer cuts and no direct mail or factory direct sales to users, signed by Commercial Manager N A Dawking.
