Local notices report Francesville Fall Festival slated for Sept 17 to 20 with premium booklet updates for exhibitors. Community events include services at the Catholic church, visits by Miss Lucie Howe, and various social happenings across town.
The festival runs September 17 to 20 with Prof William Simmons high diver and Mme Susanne Raymond balconist plus Tross Brothers aerial acts on double trapeze Roman rings and more. The Francisville agricultural exhibit promises its largest display yet with special premiums. Also noted are church services by Walter Maxwell and Grover Culp and local youths entering ministry. Leopold and Porter offer a new line of shoes and clothing.
A state inspector orders grocers to halt sale of spoiled or uncertified goods and to obtain guarantees from farmers and suppliers. He urges cleaning, closed storage, and written assurances for purity, while local retailers are urged to stock school materials and honor top market values for poultry.
The depository law takes effect December 16 with the governor, auditor, and treasurer directing the state board of finances from the auditors office. City county and township boards form concurrently to replace the old system. Governor Hanly chairs the state board with Auditor Billheimer as secretary.
Citizens of Star City filed a remonstrance against the saloon business in Van Buren township with 257 signatures, a majority of 77. Knox town, amid a temperance fight, filed in October and won by sixteen, despite plans to delay.

The ad stresses upright conduct, liveliness, and honesty, noting the employer pays fairly and values reliability. It ends with a bizarre anecdote about an Ohio man who eats sand daily to cure indigestion.

The Republican faction rails against fake reformers calling them “true blue” poseurs. They accuse a county group of manipulating votes, oppose endorsements by the Tribune, and push for an open, conscientious county government to defeat the “Big 4” and curb what they call high taxes and editorials used for political gain.
Dr J C Sharrer suffered a badly bruised head and shoulder blade after a car crash south of town when a front wheel failed at twenty miles per hour. He was unconscious briefly but fared better due to steering gear protection and was taken to town by Harley Seward after the vehicle’s connecting pin was forgotten by the mechanic.
