Salvation Army aid praised for rehabilitating prisoners

The Young People's Christian Endeavor Union holds its annual county convention Sunday afternoon at the Christian church in Woinameae with Rev B D Thirt of Beaver Creek to speak. A roll call and election of officers will occur, and delegates from Francesville and Jessie Jentz plan to attend the state convention in Marion June 12 to 15.

Decoration Day Observed With Military Honors

Ceremonies marked Decoration Day with graves east of town decorated in the morning and a trip to Nauvoo in the afternoon to honor the dead. Veterans from the Spanish American, World, and Civil wars attended, including Stephen Eldridge, the Civil War survivor, who enjoyed the event at over eighty. Visitors from out of town joined the annual observance.

Ebert Garrigues Named Postmaster Here

Ebert Garrigues of this place has received official notification from the post office department and will succeed Walter AP as postmaster when his time expires on July 28. Garrigues was recommended by Milton Kraus and Senator Watson, and endorsed by the local political organization. Engle retires after many years of service and leaves with high praise for his efficient government work, aided by Miss Lannah Byers as postmistress.

Memorial Sermon by Rev. J. N. Jessup at Local Church

Rev. J. N. Jessup of the Sirst Christian church Lafayette delivered a memorial sermon to a large congregation at the local Christian church Sunday evening. He praised Christian civilization and the United States as a grand example capable of aiding world peace. Special music by quartets complemented the proceedings.

Mrs. Girthie Fitzpatrick Buried Friday

The funeral for Mrs. Girthie Fitzpatrick was held at Salem Evangelical Church Francesville with Rev. G A Pirgau officiating. Burial followed in the east Francesville cemetery. Born November 9 1890 in Hungary she came to the U S at age four and later settled here. She married in 1911 to Girthie Fitzpatrick and leaves five children ages from infant to eleven.

Former band leader dies at Logansport

John W. Coons of Logansport died at his home Saturday from uremic poisoning after months of declining health. He had recently directed the local band and the funeral was held Monday in Logansport.
