Mary Ann Younger Geyer 56 died May 12 1917 in Francesville Ind after neuralgia of the heart. Born October 25 1860 in Hamilton County Ohio she moved with her family to Indiana in 1863 and married Daniel Geyer in 1879. Survived by husband five children and several siblings. funeral held at Star City with burial in I O O F cemetery. Chicago paper price increases noted by Walter M Engle with changes effective May 14 1917.

Literary Musical Club meets with Mrs Myers Tuesday
The Literary and Musical Club gathered Tuesday evening with Mrs. Harry J. Myers hosting. A program led by Mrs. Poundstone covered Early Explorations from 1492 to 1607 and Colonization from 1600 to 1774. Attendees included Mesdames Hill Judy Taylor Hubbard W J Richardson H A Myers Poundstone Reish and Miss Geer Hayworth Hill and Minnie Davis. Minnie Davis returned home near Medaryville from Hope Hospital after an appendicitis operation.

Otto Braun Died Suddenly Former Francesville Bandmaster
Otto Braun former Francesville bandmaster died at his Lowell home after a two hour illness. He led the Rensselaer band six years before moving to Lowell to a similar post. Born in Germany in 1874 he came to the United States about 1890 and lived in Chicago before settling in Francesville and later Lowell. He leaves a wife three daughters two sons and several siblings in Germany. Funeral was held in Lowell with large attendance at the church and opera house. Wreaths came from multiple bands and organizations including St Martins Hanover Center Rensselaer Hebron St Johns Shelby Chamber of Commerce Lake County Lowell and others. The funeral procession stretched three quarters of a mile.

Five of the seven Monon young men passed the Ft Wayne physical after acceptance at the Indiana recruiting station and sending to Ft Thomas Kentucky. George Noyes and Daniel C Stout failed.

Two Boys Go to Fort Harrison With Civil War Veteran
Stephen Thrasher, a veteran, accompanied Francesville youths Paul Delamore and Roy Thrasher to Indianapolis Sunday and placed them at Fort Benjamin Harrison as mess mates. He says they were well satisfied and their training will be valuable, noting Paul’s prior Culver training as a useful asset.

Navy 150000 men plan and pay raise in Senate bill
Senate naval committee yesterday inserted an amendment to raise the navy to 150000 and the marine corps to 40000 with equal pay to the army. Private pay not less than 25 per month. Acting Chairman Swanson reported the measure and it may be taken up next week. A Logansport paper reports a man arrested with a war map bearing verses about Terre Haute Logansport Evansville Gary and dry law. John Petit of Ville has a son loyal to country potentially eligible for pension. A patriotic sow has produced 17 piglets to date. The Kaiser should worry. Aman in Arkansas Trial Shows Weapons Visibly Displayed
Aman in Arkansas was tried for assault and battery with intent to kill. The state presented a list of weapons used by the defendant including a rail ax gun tongs saw riffle and the defense showed a scythe pitchfork pistol dog razor and hoe. The jury admitted they would have paid to see the fight. Postmaster Walter M Engle bought the Francesville newspaper agency from Virgil Coffel who joined the coast artillery. Engle aims to run the paper on a strict business basis offering the best service. Chicago papers have raised prices while Indianapolis papers keep their rates.
